Kind kin
In their adolescence when I last saw them
Frail and shy, beautiful without and within
How time flies, now they have grandchildren
Surprised, their visit was a happy reunion.
Their late father, quick-witted and talented
On our wedding, special gift he presented
His first on canvas, countryside he painted
To this day, our only wall decor displayed.
Soft-spoken, their late mother I remember
Her sweet smile, always comforting and tender
Kept home clean, every little thing in order
Needs of growing children, a priority to her.
In times when even bits of coins are hard to find
Feeling helpless, turned to this kin, sweet and kind
Though hard up, no second thought to be our host
Offered us lodging when we needed it most.
Whatever we say and do, can never repay
That short stay they might consider petty
Without them, that moment could have been messy
Their kindness, forever treasured in memory.
